Dr. Randall Murphy
Administrative Dean

Dr. Randall Wade Murphy grew up in an under-privileged area of Houston called 3rd Ward. He is the sixth (6th) of eight (8) children. He was born to a wonderful family that was dedicated to the church, filled with laughter, and controlled with discipline.

After attempting to see what the streets were all about, Dr. Murphy gave his life to Christ on October 10, 1977. On March 10, 1978, God filled Dr. Murphy with the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Has Dr. Murphy been perfect all his years with Christ? —no. Nevertheless, every success and failure of his life, prepared him for ministry today. God has given Dr. Murphy a place in the Ministry of Jesus Christ, which has blessed and revolutionized his life. Dr. Murphy believes in giving the ministry of God a 200% effort.

After his undergraduate degree from Texas Southern University, he began theological studies at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Within four months of his arrival, he was voted President of the Charles Harrison Mason Student Fellowship Association though he was one of the youngest students on campus. He received a Master of Divinity from the Seminary in 1985 and a Masters in Counseling and Psychology from Atlanta University in 1988. In 2016, Pastor Murphy became Dr. Murphy, receiving his Doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University.  His formal seminary training and education in Psychology has prepared him for his life-long task of serving God’s people.

In 1989, Pastor Murphy was appointed to revitalize and revive the Charles Harrison Mason Bible College in Houston. He met the challenge and served as Administrative Dean from April 1989 through July 1996.

On September 16, 1996, Dr. Murphy opened the doors of the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. His philosophical approach to ministry comes from the greatest teacher and philosopher that he has ever studied—Jesus Christ.

God has blessed Dr. Murphy with a myriad of professional opportunities in the field of Psychology.  He has had several jobs in Student Affairs at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia, Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, and Houston Community College.  On the academic side, Dr. Murphy has taught at Houston Community College, Alvin Community College, and the University of Houston Downtown in the areas of Philosophy and Psychology.  Dr. Murphy has taught in colleges and universities for the past 36 years.  Education and the development of minds is a process that is very important and dear to his heart.  He views what he does as a calling and a divine responsibility.

Dr. Murphy believes that ministry training is more important today now than ever before. Families in our society faces major economic challenges such as inflation, and health care and medication costs.  In addition, other challenges exists such as domestic violence, neighborhood crime, mental disorders, and undisciplined young people.

The answer to these and many other challenges are found in the Word of God.  Dr. Murphy’s next assignment from God is training.  Biblical and theological training has made an immeasurable difference in his life.  Dr. Murphy looks forward to the challenge and journey of training men and women virtually at The Institute of Discipleship.  With effective training and the help of the Lord, his plans are to prepare Men and Women of God to be ready and equipped for the challenge—— in Jesus Name.
